Farmer's Organic Gin
The Free Bacchus Story
Farmer’s Organic Gin is made under contract. The brand belongs to Chatham Imports, a New York company, and the gin is distilled at Distilled Resources in Rigby, Idaho, a co-packer whose organic certificate lists Farmer’s Gin by name. Gray Ottley, who founded the distillery, is its distiller.
The wheat comes from 1000 Springs Mill in Buhl, in the Magic Valley of southern Idaho, where the Cornie family has farmed for three generations. Each bottle takes about two and a half pounds of it, the grain travels about 200 miles to the still, and the brand says it can go from grain to glass in a week.

The organic record is clearest at the distillery. The mill holds an organic certificate for handling its wheat, but no farm is named on any register we read, so we cannot confirm the fields themselves. The farmers told Forbes in 2024 that growing this way can cost more, take more labour and yield less.
Gin is a neutral spirit flavoured with juniper and other botanicals. Farmer’s adds elderflower, lemongrass, coriander, rosebud, angelica root, orange and lime, and hemp seed, which the brand says gives it a nutty, savoury character and which has been tested and found to contain no detectable THC or CBD. It is bottled at 93.4 proof, 46.7 per cent. The brand’s Reserve Strength Gin, described as made from non-GMO grains, is a separate product; this page is about the organic one.
“That’s what organic is all about.”
